August 2003

Greetings, Earthlings and Interplanetary Visitors!

Once again, welcome to the sci-fi mambo lab newsletter from the liquid centre of Bopnique! Translation: this is shameless self-promotion for the studio and our clients.

This sets the record for our longest lapse in news. Some of it is "olds" for sure, but we will do our best to bring you up to date.

Studio Bopnique Nashvegas - We have a new space in the Marathon Village of downtown Nashville. Upon completion it will be a writing and pre-production facility, and to that end we ran our first pre-production sessions there in May. Thanks to Jennifer and KJ for the nice welcome!

New assistant - We are happy to introduce Steve Barlay, a talented musician/engineer who is doing a fabulous job as our new assistant!

Andrea Surova - Singer-songwriter Andrea Surova's EP Rainbow in a Cage has been released! It features innovative pop with retro elements and imagistic lyrics. Buy CDs at her website www.rainbowinacage.com. Thanks to Steve Morse for the great review in The Boston Globe. Andrea has already returned to the studio to begin work on the follow-up.

Collective Soul- This month in Atlanta Anthony will be doing some post-production/keyboard work for Collective Soul's new album.

Caviar - Producer/Engineer Paul David Hager was in doing a mix for Caviar. Caviar is well known for its song "Tangerine Speedo," featured in the first Charlie's Angels film.

Duran Duran - In September Anthony and Karyadi will be mixing a tune for Duran Duran's new album, which is currently in the works.

LC - LC, a rock band from the Baltimore area, has been working on a new record, its first at Bopnique. Its catalog from the past few years has sold over 50,000 units! The new songs are a bit heavier and we are working on some radio tracks to take the band to the next level. Thanks to Alan Stewart and Kathleen Courtier of SG Management for bringing them in.

Universal Hall Pass - Melissa "Mel K" (formerly of Splashdown) has a new CD in the works, which she worked on for several months with Bryan Carrigan in Banner Elk, NC. Anthony J. Resta made two trips there in February and May to record and write. Melissa's music melds electronica with pop and rock and whips it up into something futuristic and new. Check out Mel K's web site at www.universalhallpass.com/hearye.html

Purge D.I. - Purge D.I., a hard rock band from Manchester, NH, has been recording its first three songs at Bopnique. The band has sold nearly 10,000 copies of the CD it released on Ass Nine Records. It is also getting air play and causing quite a stir with its live act. Check them out at www.purgedi.com

Tony Roberts - The CD release party for Tony Roberts' full-length CD Grains of You was at Bill's Bar on the 24th of July. Tony writes hip folky pop music with poetic lyrics. More info: www.tonyrobertsmusic.com Tony's EP Happiness has been selling well at the Aware web store, where Tony has charted in the top 10 alongside acts like Jack Johnson and the Thorns.

John Cate - John Cate has been working on his seventh album, his first at Bopnique. The music coming out of the collaboration is a modern approach to pop with Americana overtones. We are determined to make it John's Pet Sounds. Thanks to the Van Gogh Brothers band for their valuable contributions and to Executive Producer Mark Zamcheck for getting the ball rolling.

Charley Corozzo - Charley Corozzo has completed six songs, which he will combine with songs from the Coalboilers for a full-length CD. The music is organic and folky pop with loads of hooks. Check him out live with the Coalboilers. Thanks to Gary Bachstrom and Saucy McPickles for making the tracks a joy to work on!

I - The band I (www.wearei.com) is making big waves in the New England rock scene. Its single "Drive" has been in regular rotation at Rock 101. I has worked on 3 songs at Bopnique and is returning soon to do more. These guys are thunderous live! Go check out the mania! Also They are opening for RA in the near future, details at the band's site

Sandra Spence - Singer-songwriter Sandra Spence mixed her full-length CD at Studio Bopnique. Sandra writes classic pop music in a bunch of different flavours. Besides her own material, Sandra's CD includes cool renditions of songs like "Downtown" and "S.O.S." Sandra, Jon Butcher and Tony Carle produced, and Karyadi Sutedja (Mix Engineer) and Anthony J. Resta mixed and did some post production work.

Chad Lamarsh - Peter Collins and Anthony J. Resta co-produced "Kiss Me," a hooky pop rock track on Chad Lamarsh's new full-length record that was released last month. The CD release party was on July 25th at The Rack in Boston. More info: www.chadlamarsh.com

Dan Cecere - 4H Fair musical whiz kid Dan Cecere and Anthony J. Resta have been working on an LP of post grunge hard rock overflowing with raw teen angst. Initial industry response has been positive and the full-length record should be out in early 2004. Thanks to Paul David Hager and Matt Girard for all their help on the project.

33K St - In June 33K St experienced the Bopnique magic for the first time. It was a good experience for everyone and we had a great time working with them. They have been attracting quite a following in NH and MA. Check them out live and at their new web site at www.33kst.com

Zoe's Choice - Zoe's Choice recorded its radio single "Lift" at Bopnique during the winter. The band takes influences like U2 and Jane's Addiction and bends it into something all their own. We hope to see them back in 2004!

New gear - Pete Cornish is an amazing craftsman and electronic innovator who has been making the best distortion units on the planet since the late sixties for David Gilmour, Paul McCartney, Lou Reed, and countless others. We've recently acquired the P2 Fuzz and NG fuzz. Words don't do these things justice. The P2 is reminiscent of the Beatles' "Revolution." The Holy Grail of Fuzz! Thanks, Pete!
