Review of Dave Alperts new CDSinger/songwriter Dave Alpert delivers 5 magnificent tracks filled with multi-layered instrumentation and hypnotic vocals on his new sampler Peace of Mind. Employing the talents of producer Anthony J. Resta, Alpert was able to create compositions that soar with aural color and texture. Filled with ornamental sound bytes and percussive quirks, Alpert’s songs aren’t your typical garage rock fare. They’re more complex and musical, much like the higher offerings of bands like XTC and The Beatles. There’s no clamor here... just well penned songs played with equal aplomb. Guitarist Russell Mofsky, bassists Tim Griffin, Clayton Young and Tom Royal along with drummers Ed Arnold and Mike Levesque join the cast of musicians that grace the tracks of Peace of Mind. Anthony Resta and Karyadi Sutedja also add fine musical contributions along with their engineering and production skills. In sum, Alpert and friends have assembled one of the coolest sounding albums of the year!
