Issue 36, April 1997

Duran continues without JT

As was to be expected, this issue focused on John's departure from Duran Duran. The remaining members of the band left the following messages late January on the Duran Duran Hotline about John's departure.

Simon: 'Hi, this is Simon speaking from London and I would like to wish you all a happy New Year, hope you had a good Christmas. Um, sadly, um, I have to announce that John Taylor has decided to leave Duran Duran after 15 years. And it's an amicable agreement that we have and we shall be carrying on with Duran Duran without him.'

Nick: 'Hi, this is Nick and we're all together here in London, except for Johnny, sadly. And, ah, he called me on the 18th, Saturday the 18th, to tell me that he was checking out. So, euh, you know we talked to him about it and it seems the right thing for him to do, and he's going to pursue his own things in Los Angeles, which we wish him the best of luck with. And well, we're going to finish our album. It's sounding great, so don't worry too much, we'll be with you soon. And I'll speak to you soon. Bye.'

Warren: 'Hi, it's Warren, we're all together here in the Big Bang Generation. We have to say, speaking of John the other day, he did say that he is very, very happy. So in case any of you were wondering, if you haven't spoken to him or had any kind of correspondence, he wanted you to know that he's very happy with his decision. And you now, it's been a rough couple of years but a lot of good work has gone down. The records is turning out amazing so don't lose any hope in Duran Duran because we're always going to be here, giving you the great music and we hope you enjoy it. Everybody take care of yourselves, bye.'
