Rock 'n Roll Wall of Fame

MGM Rock and Roll wall of Fame 21st July 2000
Disney's MGM Studios in Florida isn't an obvious place to go to see Duran Duran, but on this occasion the band were being honoured with a plaque on MGM's Rock'n'Rollercoaster wall of fame and Mandy was there to see them put their hand prints in cement.

After riding the rollercoaster and the Tower of Terror a few times I braved the midday heat and joined the crowd that had built up to witness the band make their mark. They arrived fashionably late, pulling up in an open-top car and climbing onto the stage to be greeted by an enthusiastic but hot and sweaty crowd. The Duran music that had been playing in anticipation of their arrival was turned off, and the band answered a few questions from the host about Pop Trash and the tour before getting their hands dirty. Nick's face was a picture as he lifted his hand out of the slimy mess, it was quite a treat to see him having to stand in the unbearably hot sun and get messy at the same time!

Once the handprints had been done the band were asked to sign their creations in the cement using a stick. Simon and Nick had no problems with this, but anyone who's seen Warren's illegible scrawl will know he has problems writing with a pen, and trying to sign his name with a stick seemed to be a bit much for him!

Once the dirty work was over, the band and crowd moved on to the marginally cooler Hollywood Theatre for a question and answer session. The majority of the questions came from the fans in the audience and Pop Trash and the upcoming Orlando concerts were plugged and discussed again. None of the questions were very original though, and after 15 minutes or so it was time for the band to go and the fans to file out past the rows of bemused parents and children who were waiting to see Beauty And The Beast.
