In April 1998, The Dutch Go Duran celebrated its 10th anniversary. Since that made (and still makes) TDGD the longest running Duranzine around, and 10 years (40 fanzines!) is a long time to keep a fanzine going, it called for a big celebration. We put out a special anniversary issue of the fanzine which looked at Duran Duran and TDGD through the years 1988-1998.
The fanzine featured articles from TDGD editors past & present, we got other Duranies to tell us what it meant to them to be Duran fans and Wes Wehmiller (bassguitarist) and Anthony J. Resta (producer/percussionist) gave us a little insight into what it's like to work with Duran.
Warren, Nick and John also very kindly contributed to this special fanzine in the form of sending congratulations and donating items of clothing to give away in our competition (JT donated a waistcoat he wore to the premiere of the movie Mi Vida Loca; and Warren donated a black lace vest and a fabulous leopard print coat!).
All in all, it made for a very, very special issue, which is sadly completely sold out. However, we've put some of the more exclusive contents of the anniversary issue on the site for you to view.
The photos on this page were all taken by Nick during the band's US tour of 1997. Before he set off for America, we gave him a disposable camera and asked him if he would be so kind as to take some photos for us. Wonderful as he is, he took over 20 photos at various stages of the tour - backstage, in parking garages, during rehearsals; photos of the band, but also of the accompanying musicians and personnel and of the support act. We feel honoured to have received such a special glimpse of life on the road with Duran Duran.
Nick also sent us a poem titled 'Caveman Apollo' which looks at 10 years of TDGD but more especially, it looks at Duran Duran after John's departure and how Nick sees the band's future. Enjoy!
Included in the fanzine were extracts from the complete transcripts of the interviews held for the ExtraOrdinary World video documentary. We printed several very interesting comments which never made it to the final video. The complete transcript can now be read on the Pop Trash site.
